The National Park of the Manú is in danger!

The entry in the National Park of the Manú. Station of vigilance of Ajanaco. Department of Cusco.

We have pulled the alarm, to Peru but also in Europe, in North America of months ago and on!

The National Park of the Manú, in the south of Peru, is in big danger. This zone of 1.532.806 hectares, is one of the richest biospheres of the planet. Created May 29, 1973 by the orderly Suprême Nº 0644-73-AG, one counts of it several hundreds of animal and plant species to the square kilometer.

This Park has been recognized like Heritage Natural of the humanity in 1987, and previously (in 1977) the UNESCO recognized it like core of the Biosphere Reserve. It is the biggest tropical natural reserve of the world and richest of one point of biologic view. An impressive variety of animal and plant species prospers there: more of 1 000 species of birds and 200 of mammals (of which more of 100 species of bald-mouse). More of 120 species of fish and the reptiles exist are present in abundance and are varied, all as the bugs and other invertebrates who pass the million of species.

Different sectors compose today the National Park of the Manú: a cultural zone, open to the tourism; an economic zone, permitting the exploitation of wood; and especially a reserved zone, forbidden to all tourist or forest, open exploitation only to the scientific research.

This last zone constitutes the main part of the park. It is a region sanctuarisée, in which lives numerous indigenous tribes again (Machiguengas, Amahuacas, Yines, Amarakaeris, Huachipaires, Mashcos-Piros, Nahuas, etc.), whose exact number always escapes to statistics.

To penetrate in this reserved, extensively uncharted zone, a special permit is granted on file by the organism responsible for the management of the parks and reserves natural of Peru: the Nacional Instituto of Recursos Naturales (INRENA).

It is precisely in this zone reserved of the National Park of the Manú that in 1921 were discovered the famous pétroglyphes of Pusharo. And it is also in this zone that Nicole and Herbert Cartagena discovered in 1979 the complex agricultural of Mameria. Situated to the border of the protected zone and the cultural zone, on the territory of the community of Llactapampa, the" pyramids" of Paratoari oppose, since some years, the persons responsible of the Inrena of Cusco to the inhabitants of Llactapampa who would like to make of this zone a tourist, menacing sector the very existence of the Paratoari, virgin, as Pusharo, of all archaeological investigating.

Since about thirty years, some explorers in search of Païtiti, consider Spots it of Dios, and more precisely the region of the Pantiacolla (or Pantiaj Qolla, that means, in quechua", the place where gets lost the princess",), situated in the zone reserved of the National Park of the Manú, as the historic place where would hide the queen of the lost cities again. This new localization is relative to the position of some key points situated in the buttresses of the Andes.

He/it is some thus of the expeditions that we organize ourselves in the National Park of the Manú since numerous years. For our part, we always respected scrupulously the Peruvian law. The Challenge Païtiti 2005 and our archaeological exploration project (without excavation), in the reserved zone, were approved by the Commission of investigating of the Nacional Instituto of Cultura (INC) of Cusco, and we had the special authorization of the INRENA.

Since 2005, our sector of investigating has been declared very fortunately jointly by the Inc and the INRENA of Cusco like" Intangible Zone of Archaeological interest ", and one cannot come to make whatever there!

Unfortunately, all visitors of the park don't have this attitude.

"The presence of groups of tourists in the zone reserved of the Park Nacional of the Manú", said El Soil", is not a foreign fact for the researchers who achieve some investigatings in the sector in question, reserved strictly to the protection of fauna and flora, in which exists numerous species unique to the world, that must be protected from a very strict manner. Unfortunately, this serious fact state is perpetrated with the complicity of civil servants of the INRENA of Cusco. Etc."

We hope that an awareness wins the minds of the official authorities of Peru soon and that it is not more possible to admit in the sector protected from the National Park of the Manú of the groups of tourists, led by incompetent and little scrupulous agencies.

We follow the business closely and will give you news regularly on the situation in the park. It agrees today to mobilize itself!
